HIGHLIGHTS

Nicknamed the “Venice of the Alps,” this wonderful city is the jewel of the Alpine region, with its colorful buildings nestled by waterways, its houses, restaurants, bistros, and shops. During a steep walk up to the top of the old town, discover the impressive Château d’Annecy. The waters of the beautiful lake surrounding the city are among the purest in Europe. We highly recommend boat excursions around this Alpine lake to finish the day.

THE OLD TOWN OF ANNECY

The old town of Annecy has been beautifully restored, and it is a pleasure to walk around. Along the waterways, admire the colorful buildings, restaurants, bistros, and cafes with outdoor seating offering amazing views.

A large part of the old town is made up of very narrow streets and alleys, which are only accessible to pedestrians.

LAKE ANNECY

A major attraction of the city is its unique location on the shores of Lake Annecy. Boat excursions on the lake are very popular, including both lunch cruises and round-trip crossings. It is also possible to rent boats from the park behind the Town Hall: you will find motorboats and pedal boats available for rent by the half-hour. Swimming is allowed in this crystal-clear lake, and the view of the Alps is absolutely breathtaking.

CHÂTEAU D’ANNECY

The Château d’Annecy was the residence of the Counts of Geneva. In the 16th century, the entrance to the castle was fortified by a parapet passage. The oldest part of the castle is the Queen’s Tower, which was built in the 13th century. From the 17th century until the 1940s, the castle served as a barracks: today it houses a museum featuring exhibitions about the art and history of the region.
